Mallinson Girls School is located in Srinagar in Kashmir Valley. The school was founded by Ms Fitze Mallinson in 1912 at Fateh Kadal and later shifted to Lal Chowk in Srinagar.
Mallinson Girls School was founded in 1912 by Miss Violet B. Fitze as the Girls’ Mission High School. Its name was later changed to Mallinson Girls’ School in honour of Miss Mallinson, a missionary who served in the school from 1922 to 1961. The Mallinson Girls Srinagar was established at Fateh Kadal in 1912. It was in October 1912, when Miss Violet B. Fitze laid the foundation of the CMS Girls’ School in a mud house in FatehKadal.
When in the year 1942 Biscoe Boys School was shifted to a large piece of land at Sheikh-Bagh, donated by Mr.Hadow, a carpet merchant, to the CMS. The Girls’ School also followed suit in 1965 since the space was available at the Sheikh-Bagh Campus to accommodate the newly named Miss Muriel P. Mallinson Girls’ School.
It can hardly be over emphasized that it was Miss Mallinson who was instrumental in bringing about educational and cultural advancement among the women of Srinagar. Under her inspiring leadership, the school became a hub of cultural activities. Miss Mallinson introduced Drill, Camping, Mountaineering, Cycling, Arts and Crafts, Home Science and many other activities which became compulsory in the years to come for the rest of the state and even for the women of the country. What she introduced in the first quarter of the twentieth century was introduced in the country in late fifties, after Independence. The subjects taught in the school were English, Urdu, Persian, General Knowledge, Mathematics and Nature Study (Environmental Studies). Hindi was introduced in 1944 and General Science in 1946-47. So far this subject had not been provided for in any other girls School. Apart from these subjects, Basket Making, Embroidery, Laundry, Cooking etc. also received much attention. The will and vision, capability and contribution to make it in tomorrow’s uncertain world and to swim against the stream, the enthusiasm, the zeal, the courage, the sincerity, the truthfulness, the cause and conviction never doused the fire, the celestial fire which is called the Love of God.
